TAKE OFFENSE Under the Same Shadow Reaper Records
one of my great surprises was how incredible TAKE OFFENSE's first full length cam out of nowhere and blew me away in dec 2011. it made so many best if lists and deserved ly so. Well in March 2012 we get 4 new songs. Let's just get the unfettered, unabashed SUICIDAL TENDENCIES worship. On top of musical emulation, the vocals of AH are uncanny - i mean, Mike Muir could not sound more like Mike Muir. *(think of Iron Boots to Warzone). These four jams do see them stepping from an exact replica of Join the Army. What we see is a more present day hardcore songwriting style introduced. and as i look to back of the 12" ep (yep...) i see "written by TAKE OFFENSE and Nick Jett". well, that explains it. Don't me wrong, this is still Venice style thrash with tight riffing and dive bombs. Just some coarser riffs. Solid production *(again, by Nick Jett; who also mixed and engineered)on this one. The dual vox of straight hoarse growls and the de-Muir chanting/whispering adds to TO's unique (so to speak) style. It is a solid Reaper Records release. They just do not disappoint. If you like the full length - this release is four more songs in the same vein. So flip that brim, button your top button and do an acid drop off the pool lip and go shred. Enjoy.
