REVILERS (self-titled LP) Review

REVILERS(s/t) on PATAC (CD); Blackhole (Vinyl); CONTRA and 4subcultre for foreign distro.

With a few 7” releases *(Stand or Fall and Isolated on PATAC) and compilation appearances behind them, this self produced LP comes on with a furious bang with “No Bullshit Reactor”; which is in the vein of ADOLF & THE PISS ARTISTS’ unquenchable fervor. REVILERS know how to blend strong Oi! back beat and a bass line with the snotty ’77 punk catchiness to which many boot boys will be raising a pint. That same formula, akin to TOMMY & THE TERRORS, continues with “Quit My Job”. You can also lace up yer boots for the big NYHC stomp (Murphys Law, Reagan Youth, The Abused) of “Negativity” or “Sick of Being Sick and Tired”. “1860” has a great COCKNEY REJECTS feel and “All Ages” gives a nod to the ANTI-HEROS. My favorite jam is probably “Revision” a great driving punk song, but the bass line and harmonies help raise it beyond the status quo (and the lyrics). It is about how the desperate people cling to tragedy as a commodity and the disgusting aftermath of such actions. The riffs are tight and the melodies really bring the emotional ambience that nails the sentiment. It is truly a big rocking sound that summons a slight psychobilly and garage (ZEKE, KOFFIN KATS, LILLINGTONS). While “Fifth Column” goes for the jugular with a true Oi! feel of today of say BAKERS DOZEN or ON FILE.

I could go song by song (I think I almost did), but let’s just agree if you enjoy the strength of sped up Oi! with punk and hardcore interwoven with a real rock and roll feel, this LP is for you! Everyone from AGNOSTIC FRONT to EATER to VIBRATORS to SNIX to EFFIGIES to THE TEMPLARS to CHUCK BERRY had a hand in molding this exquisitely executed example of balanced influences. REVILERS really know ho to craft varied aspects of their inspirations into their own unique stamp of notes and harmonies and forceful beats. And just in case you doubt, check the JERRY LEE LEWIS cover. For real.

THIS IS A MUST GET – NOT A WEAK SONG!!
