LIONHEART
Undisputed
Mediaskare Records
I always wanted to write an essay called “For Fans of TERROR” as a criticism of “creative copout” (cheers, Andy KYI) monikers that labels clung to like a flotation device in a Nor’easter. That term was ubiquitous on a bevy of stickers on any heavy music CD released in the early 2Ks. But since that has tapered off in the 2010’s, I dare say that it is quite appropriate. More ‘core than HATEBREED; heavier than MADBALL; but LIONHEART’s influences are obvious. Bands like MERAUDER, DONNYBROOK! DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR all come to mind.
That said, LIONHEART keep it fresh and smack their unique imprint onto the hardcore scene. Undisputed holds some tight metal elements filtered through strong, thick production; but it has that 100% hardcore attitude. Breakdowns are plentiful and will propel bloodshed in the most vicious pit. LIONHEART eschews the multitude of HC royalty guests that appeared on their prior LP, Built On Struggle. The themes of the lyrics stay the same: brotherhood, hard times, streets, and a hate for a broken and ugly world. If you need to vent your disgust of humanity to crushing riffs and violent beats a la 90’s hardcore; pick up this classic from these Bay Area hardcore titans.
STAND OUT TRACKS: “End of My Rope”, “How I Was Raised”, “From Nothing”, “Better Days”
