so - what a cool surprise. i jumped on the ol' myspace after a long time of not and i see an announcment from H8 Inc - a new friggin' album. Fan-fuckin-tastic. I loved "Life of Pain". Great D_Beat, mid-eighties hardcore. Negative Approach, Discharge with cool mosh parts type deal. Fast, heavy, crushing songs about poverty, hate, murder, violence, pain, and many other aspects of the cold, bitter streets of Detroit. If you ever picked up the Cold as Life comp of early year stuff ("1988 - 1993") it is much like that; not CAL later stuff; just produced better.
So - "A Clockwork Misery": It is just as dark and heavy and brutal and noisy. It is produced 'cleaner'; which is good. That aspect helps a lot. (It's not like Atreyu or some non-sense, but cleaner). This is very guitar driven; the riffs take front seat. there are a solid presence to the drums and bass; awesome and clear, just slightly held back. It is mixed well. This is more early Madball than NA or UK82 of "L.I.P.". Gang vocals are thrown in *("Take Back Your Life", "Do What You Can","I will smash your face!") for a truer hardcore sound/feel than the metal some may expect. There are double bass stomps and a lot dance parts, but also lots of 4/4 straight ahead old school NYHC parts too. I guess my point is while this has a metal slant - it ain't Terror or Integrity or Hatebreed. This owes more to NA, AF, YDI, and Poison Idea with a crisp production that packs a wallop. Like 86 Mentality or Set To Explode mixed wit nails, concrete, and Wisdom in Chains. Hateful, nihilistic thoughts yield lyrics that propel tough, angry, jaded tyrades. Which is awesome. This hardcore is for the true heads. Gruff vocals, no singing or longing rants of abstract visions. These guys came from the ashes of a legend that never got its due. i would hope that these guys can get some accolades that return rewards for guys that have seen hard times on the street and in a band. if you love classic heavy hardcore, this is for you.
